acgcA week from Friday the ACGC football team will open the season at home against a familiar foe. The Chargers will square off against an IKM-Manning team who controlled the game last season, shutting out the gold and black 44-0.

Even though the Wolves have outscored the Chargers 91-6 the last two seasons, Charger players are optimistic they can turn things around in the series. Starting lineman Quynton Younker believes the team’s experience gives them a good chance to pull off the upset. “Well we just have to stay together as a team. They lost a lot of guys, they only have like three returning guys. We have most of our returning guys so I think we could give them a run for their money.”

As far as personal achievements, Younker is hoping to simply stay injury free and keep improving with the new coaching staff. When asked about his personal goals, senior running back Ben Kingery had only one thing on his mind. “Win every game. That’s all there is to it. Play as a team. Win every game.”

The players put on the pads for the first time yesterday and will host an in-house scrimmage on Friday in Guthrie Center. The scrimmage begins at 7pm at Jarman Field.
