Perry football will report for their first practice today as the Bluejays start preparation for the 2018 opener August 25th against Greene County. Last Friday, Raccoon Valley Radio reported that former Luther Head Coach and current Penn State faculty member Paul Hefty was in Perry sharing thoughts and offensive concepts with the Bluejay staff. Hefty’s connection to Perry started back with former Perry head coach Jason Olejniczak’s father, Dennis back in Decorah. The elder Olejniczak won over 1300 baseball games in his storied high school baseball coaching career.
“Coach Hefty has actually known the Olejniczak family for years,” added current Perry coach Matt Hardy. “He (Hefty) actually student taught for Jason’s father in Decorah and those two have kept a connection throughout the years. When Paul became head coach at Luther, those two obviously continued their relationship and Paul was willing to help out.”
However, Olejniczak wasn’t the only connection to Perry for the former Luther head coach. Perry linebacker Nic Seeley played for Hefty at Luther College after graduating Perry.
“Yeah, between the Olejniczak and Seeley families, there has certainly been a Perry to Decorah connection over the past few years.”
Perry will start practice today at 5 pm. KDLS will once again bring you all of the play by play excitement this fall.
