Cohenour Electric Owner and Master Electrician Monte Cohenour takes a look at the clock.

If you hear some additional noise in downtown Stuart this weekend, that’s probably the sound of a facelift for one of Stuart’s oldest buildings. Over the weekend the clock tower will be receiving a fresh look thanks to some generous donations of time, labor, and equipment.

The clock will be fitted with new arms and the numbers on all sides of the clock face will be repainted to give it a clearer and fresher look. Stuart native and owner of Cohenour Electric, Monte Cohenour, will be working around the clock this weekend to make sure the quick project is completed by the end of the day. He talks about the reasons he wanted to donate his time and services for the project. “I love the history of it and it was just nice to be able to give something back to my hometown. (It’s) Just something important to me…I think the historical perspective is important too to keep the older buildings up and to keep ‘Main Street’ just alive.”

The owner of the building, David Wood says these updates are all part of a process that began since he acquired the building. “It started when I bought the building in 2016 and I just felt it (was) an important icon for the town. So I started putting effort into it.”

Wood says the historical factor is the reason he originally bought the property and hopes to continue with interior renovations. He estimates about $15,000 in equipment and resources were donated to help restore the clock. He hopes to have the clock fully functional by the end of the summer.
