Iowa State Fair LogoThe 2018 Iowa State Fair is off and running and a Guthrie Center woman has won one of the coveted Best in Show awards. Mary Jane Sprague of Guthrie Center received the honor in the Clothing Construction Contest. She won two first place individual honors in the Infant/Toddler section for “Dress, Day Wear” and “Special Occasion Dress.” She also picked up top-3 finishes in two other categories.

Panorama FFA student Regan Gibson also received Reserve Champion for the “Poland China Guilt” category in the FFA Breeding Swine competition. In the Cultural Center competitions, two Guthrie Center men claimed multiple honors. In the Ceramics section, Mike Morrell won three individual categories, including: Professional Glaze, Stain, and Technique. Rex Schoonover claimed seven top-three awards, including first place finishes in “Wildlife-Realistic Predators,” “Relief Carving-Natural History,” and “Instructor Assisted-Birds.”

Two Panora twelve-year-olds also competed in the annual Bill Riley Talent Search on Sunday. Riley Gibson and Sarah Westergaard performed a musical theater duet for the judges.
