Greene County hosts North Polk (Alleman) tonight at Linduska Field in Jefferson in the annual football Sports Drink Scrimmage. Starting time is 7 p.m. Greene County head coach Mitch Moore told Raccoon Valley Radio the event is a scripted for success scrimmage with both teams being in sets on defense that should allow the other team to run successful plays. “We’re anxious to face somebody other than our own guys. We think this format will be beneficial to both teams.” Former Greene County head football coach Dean Lansman is an assistant for the Comets.

The Rams return a bevy of players from last season when the team went 1-8. There are even some starters from the 1-8 team of two seasons ago. Greene County expects a much higher win total this season based on dropping in class size from 3A to 2A, holding year around weight training and conditioning, practicing with a football since June 1, and being in the second year of the Coach Moore regime.

The regular season opens on Aug. 24 in Perry at Dewey Field when the Rams visit the Blue Jays in the annual Battle for the Cowbell.
