A Jefferson woman faces several charges following a couple of incidents last week.

According to a press release from the Jefferson Police Department, 25-year-old Hayley Brown is charged with Class D Felonies for third degree burglary, a felon in possession of a firearm and second degree theft, serious misdemeanors for fourth degree criminal mischief, unlawful possession of prescription drugs and possession of marijuana and a simple misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the release, the police began an investigation that Brown had allegedly broken into a residence in the 500 block of South Wilson Avenue and stole two handguns, two holsters and a safe. The victim believed the incident happened around 2:30pm on August 8th and the suspect was believed to be Brown. The victim was at their place of business at the time of the incident and information was received from a friend that Brown’s GPS on her cell phone showed her at the residence at the time of the burglary.

The victim then spoke with Brown and another male in the parking lot of Wild Rose Casino around 4:30pm that same day about the incident. When the victim confronted Brown about the alleged stolen items, she denied stealing them. She then gave the victim consent to search her vehicle one of the stolen holsters was discovered. The victim then claimed Brown started assaulting him and left the scene. She was then later stopped by an officer just after 9:30pm and arrested for an OWI. After being transported to the law enforcement center and booked into the Greene County Jail, Brown’s vehicle was taken to the Jefferson Impound Lot where an officer began an initial inventory of the vehicle and found a metal smoking device with residue. A search warrant for the vehicle was obtained the next day, where the previously mentioned holster was located in the vehicle, along with the smoking device and a prescription medication that wasn’t Brown’s. After Brown was released from jail, she showed up to the impound lot where she allegedly became disorderly with the officers and was subsequently arrested and taken back to jail and charged with disorderly conduct.

Another search warrant was also completed by officers for Brown’s cell phone and cell phone application records to aide in their investigation, along with interviews and a search of her hotel room where even more stolen items were recovered. The stolen firearms were then recovered that evening in an outbuilding in the 1000 block of West Wall Street.

Arrest warrants have been applied for by the police department. Brown was on parole at the time these incidents took place. She is being held on parole violation at the Boone County Jail.
