1020194_web_habitat-for-humanity-new-logoSummer may be coming to an end soon, but Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity is still working hard to complete three Helping Hands projects in Guthrie County.

They’re still currently working on a siding replacement project in Guthrie Center, which is the first one for the organization. Associate Director Jeff Lamoureux says it’s taking them a little longer than originally anticipated, but the volunteers are working extra hard to finish the job. Additional work will include the back deck and entryway. While that project is going on, another crew finished a typical scraping and repainting of a home in Bagley. Finally they will be completing a landscaping project in Guthrie Center in the next few weeks.

Lamoureux says these annual opportunities benefit not just the homeowners, but the volunteers as well. “Obviously our main focus is to help homeowners take these houses that need critical home repairs and to help them out…But there’s also that side that we’re there for volunteers to give people some volunteer opportunities to help their neighbors and possibly learn a skill.”

He mentions that the siding project in particular gave many volunteers the opportunity to learn that aspect of home repair that they never experienced before. To hear more on this year’s projects, listen to Lamoureux on today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
