The annual Sports Drink football scrimmage at Linduska Field in Jefferson is at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 17. Unlike a season ago when it was an intrasquad event, Greene County is hosting North Polk (Alleman) this year. Head football coach Mitch Moore explains the format of the scrimmage. “We’re going to do what we call ‘Scripting for Success.’ So, there will be some plays in the game where they’re going to be in a defense where we should hopefully be able to run the ball a little bit. Or, they’ll be in a defense where we should be able to complete the quick (passing) game a little bit, and make sure we can do that. Then, vise-versa, with scripting for success for North Polk where we’ll line up in our base defense and they’ll know the defense we’re going to run. We still have to run and tackle and do our assignments, but hopefully they can gain some yards doing some things. It’s going to be a different scrimmage than just lining up mano e mano and not knowing what’s going on. It’s going to be a real good teaching moment for our kids, and it’s against a different opponent.”

Admission is a sports drink.
