A five-vehicle wreck on Interstate 80 in Adair County Sunday afternoon sent three people to the hospital, including one who had to be life-flighted.

The Iowa State Patrol reports, at 1:25 p.m., there was a semi fire on the westbound exit ramp near the City of Adair, which caused traffic to back up on I-80. A 2018 BMW X5 driven by 57-year-old Judith Kisicki of Clive failed to stop in a safe distance, and wound up rear-ending a 2013 Ford Fusion driven by 46-year-old Audra Anneberg of Omaha, Nebraska. The second vehicle was pushed into a cable guard, while Kisicki’s vehicle continued on and collided with a 2014 Honda Accord driven by 27-year-old Andrew Novak of Omaha, which then ran into two additional vehicles, causing only minor damage. The BMW finally came to rest in the north ditch.

Kisicki was taken by Mercy Air Lifeflight to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines with serious injuries. Her current condition is unknown. Anneberg and her passenger, 13-year-old Andrea Anneberg were both taken by ambulance to Methodist Medical Center with unknown injuries. No other injuries were reported. The cause of the wreck is being investigated by the Iowa State Patrol. They were assisted at the scene by the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Adair County Emergency Medical Services, and City of Adair Fire and Rescue.
