The high school football season officially kicks off 10 days from today for the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers. With the start of the season closing in, the Raccoon Valley Radio Network is taking a look at the Tigers’ district opponents for the next two years. The Iowa High School Athletic Association in January placed ADM in Class 3A District 9. The group features the Creston Panthers, the Glenwood Rams, the Harlan Cyclones, the Lewis Central Titans, and the Winterset Huskies. The five teams inside ADM’s district have solid playoff pedigrees, combining for 79 postseason appearances between them.

Harlan’s tied for third all-time in most playoff appearances with 36 and head coach Curt Bladt has won a state-best 11 championships during his four decades as the Cyclones coach. Creston comes into this fall with 16 playoff appearances total, while new Class 3A foe Lewis Central has made the postseason a dozen times. Winterset and Glenwood combine for 15 postseason trips. The five team’s combined 2017 record was 35-16 with Harlan, Glenwood, and Lewis Central making the playoffs. The ADM Community School District has 10 playoff appearances in football since the merger with Minburn, and three additional appearances in the 1970’s when district taught Adel & Desoto students. The Tigers are looking to improve on a 1-8 campaign last fall. ADM’s district season begins in Adel on Friday, September 21 against the Harlan Cyclones. The 2018 season opens for the Tigers next Friday, August 24, on the road against the Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays.
