This is the first part of a conversation with Greene County High School Female Ram of the Year Megan Durbin. She is off to Iowa State University in Ames in a matter of days to become a DI student-athlete in track and field. Durbin talked with Raccoon Valley Radio and this segment deals with her favorite sport- which isn’t track & field. “I definitely say volleyball is my favorite sport still, but coming from a small town you probably don’t get noticed if you don’t play Club (volleyball) that often. I just figured I had a better shot at track because I am better at track than I am volleyball, so I decided to do track.”

Although also a sprinter in high school, the high jump is her main focus at ISU. While in high school, Durbin jumped at Drake Stadium in Des Moines seven times, finished first three times and second four. She won Drake Relays titles as a sophomore and senior, and was the Drake Relays runner-up as a junior. Durbin high jumped in four State meets and was first as a sophomore and second as a freshman, junior, and senior. Such consistency in the two biggest meets in Iowa high school track & field is rare.

We’ll continue to hear from Megan Durbin in the coming days on our Sports pages.
