The third of the four Streetscape sculptures was recently installed in downtown Perry, and this Monday the community is invited to the official unveiling of “Speed Train.”

The latest sculpture pays homage to Perry’s railroad history, and was crafted by artist Jim Russell. Russell took over the Streetscape project from fellow sculptor John Brommel, who retired before all four pieces were complete. Russell was recommended for finishing the project, and for him it was almost like his childhood joy was able to be put into sculpture form. “This project was kind of ready-made for me, it was kind of a dream come true. I was able to sort of fulfill what grew from my childhood in terms of dreamscape, and now finally be able to see those dreams manifest into something larger and on a more grand scale. So it’s been very rewarding!”

The unveiling event for “Speed Train” will be held on Monday from 7-9 p.m. at Caboose Park. There’s an added incentive for attendees to arrive early, as the first 60 people will get a free taco from El Tren and a free scoop of ice cream from The Outside Scoop. All attendees over 21 will also receive a complimentary glass of wine from Hotel Pattee. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Shawn Kenney will serve as emcee for the event, along with the Big Red Radio.
