Jefferson Streets_Sewer_Sanitation_Water CommitteesThe Jefferson Street/Sewer and Water/Sanitation Committees met Tuesday in regular session.

The committee discussed a proposal for improvements for the Grimmell Road lift station. The proposal was presented by Bolton & Menk and it was to install a permanent generator with an automatic switch to the Grimmell Road lift station and using a trailer generator with a manual switch to the other six lift stations in town. The total cost would be $175,000 to $200,000. The committee will recommend to enter a contract with Bolton & Menk on the project to the City Council.

Following a lengthy discussion, the committee directed city staff to investigate an over $7,000 one month water and sewer bill from 15 years ago for a landowner. The committee discussed the topic last month, but Council member Matt Gordon wanted to re-address the issue. Council member Larry Teeples’ concern was that it was tough to prove a mistake was made 15 years ago. A decision could be made as early as next month.

City Administrator Mike Palmer mentioned that the Highway 4 resurfacing project from Lincoln Way to Highway 30 would start after RAGBRAI in July and that the City has applied for a grant to jump start funding for the east entryway project.
