With just one game remaining in the high school baseball regular season, the Greene County Rams are pitching the ball extremely well, and the team earned run average (ERA) has been dropping steadily over the past 12 games. Unfortunately, so has the team batting average for the 14-10 Rams, who take a 7-6 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference record into today’s 4 p.m. regular season finale in Alleman vs. North Polk.

Coach John Hupp’s pitchers have allowed four runs or less to the last 12 opponents, and only twice has the opposition scored more than two runs. The team ERA has failed to 2.53 with senior Ben Wilkins leading the way with a 1.24 ERA in a team leading 45 innings pitched. Bryce Hoyle has a 2.28 ERA in 30-2/3 innings, and Wade Adcock has thrown 23-1/3 innings with an ERA of 2.40.

Offensively, the Rams have a team batting average of .279, down some 30 points in the last six games.

North Polk has clinched a share of the HOIAC title and a win this afternoon vs. Greene County would mean the Comets win the title outright.

All that’s left on the Rams’ schedule after today is Friday’s first round Class 3A District 16 first round game in Winterset vs. Glenwood at 5 p.m. The host Huskies meet Creston in game two on Friday and the two winners meet for the district title on July 16 in Winterset. Coverage on Friday starts at 4:30 p.m. with first pitch at 5 p.m. on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
