Pioneer Day is an official state holiday every year in Utah, and this year it will also be celebrated by Dallas County Conservation.

On Tuesday, July 24th, from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., the public is invited to Forest Park Museum and Arboretum for an event that may remind some of their days playing “The Oregon Trail.” Museum Curator Pete Malmberg says there’s no danger of anyone dying of dysentery during Pioneer Day, and he promises it will be entertaining and informative. The event was developed by Naturalist Cindy Blobaum, and Malmberg says she has a special hands-on activity to get people in the mood for trailblazing. “She has a little red wagon that our maintenance staff has worked up into like a kit where you build your own tiny red wagon. You can take it out on the trail, it’s great fun. Or you can take it down in the ditches, you can even try a creek crossing if you’re bold enough for that! So we let them do a variety of things with that.”

Malmberg adds, they have two red wagons at Forest Park, one of which stays in the museum, another that goes out on the trail. There is no cost to attend Pioneer Day, but registration is appreciated and attendees are advised to bring their own lunch.
