Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks
Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks

On July 1st, 2017, Clark Wicks took over as the Perry Schools Superintendent. A year later, he’s had a chance to reflect on his time so far in the position.

Following 23 years as the Perry Elementary Principal, Wicks spent four years as Superintendent in the Orient-Macksburg School District. He was then chosen to replace retiring Perry Superintendent Lynn Ubben. At the time, Wicks said the job was a dream come true, and a year later he still views it with the same enthusiasm. “It is so great to be a Blue Jay again, (I) really appreciate the opportunity! It’s exciting to work in Perry with the staff that we have, with the Board that we have, and the community that we have. I think that we’ve made some good gains on some things, but more importantly relationships with the community (and) with the staff have been, in my perspective, outstanding.”

One thing that stood out to Wicks as a success in his first year was the progress made with fundraising for the Dewey Field renovation project. They’ve raised nearly all of the $300,000 goal for phase one, thanks in large part to the generosity of the Perry community. Another positive for Wicks was seeing good returns on the yearly assessment, with nearly every grade level in the District showing growth from the previous year. Things Wicks would like to see tackled some time in his next 365 days at Perry include: a new industrial technology facility; a new wrestling room; and multiple upgrades at the middle school.
