For several years, the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District has been working towards expanding the use of technology at all levels. In the 2018-2019 school year, they’re ready to officially roll out their Technology for Learning initiative.

Earlier this year, the School Board approved the purchase of several iPads and Google Chromebooks to be used at the four school buildings in the District. For the high school and middle school, each student will be assigned a Chromebook at the start of the school year. The computers can be taken between school and home freely. At DeSoto Intermediate School, teachers will have access to one Chromebook for each student, which will be stored in carts or charging stations in each classroom. The computers will only be accessible at school. Similarly, at Adel Elementary, teachers will have access to one iPad for every two students, with the devices to be kept at school. Second grade students will also have access to Chromebooks as well as iPads.

The purpose of the initiative is to integrate technology into the students’ everyday lives and promote active digital citizenship. The administration also hopes to enhance student learning through innovation, risk-taking, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creation, and engagement with the global community. More information on the computers and tablets will be sent to families in August.
