acgcEven with a lower batting average this past season, the ACGC softball team improved their average scoring compared to their inaugural campaign.

Overall, the Chargers finished the 2017-2018 season with a batting average of .297, compared to last season’s .311. Their slugging percentage and on-base percentage were also down slightly, putting up a .438 and .386 respectively in the 2016-2017 season and a .415 and .378 in 2017-2018. The sharpest decrease however was in stolen bases. The Chargers averaged three stolen bases per game in 2016-2017, compared to just 1.44 in 2017-2018. They also averaged fewer extra-base hits, with 2.23 in 2016-2017 and 1.6 in 2017-2018.

Even with the lower hitting numbers, ACGC still nearly broke their run mark in season one. This last season the Chargers scored 184 runs in 25 games, while in the first season they scored 185 times in 30 contests. The gold and black also averaged more RBIs this season, turning in 5.72 per game in season two, compared with just 5.1 in season one. That is due in a part to a sharp increase in home runs. They hit six more long balls in season two, compared to season one, with five fewer games.

The Chargers also drew more walks this past year, averaging 3.28 as opposed to just two in their first season. Tomorrow we’ll look at team comparisons at the plate with the baseball team.
