The Perry Jayette softball team will travel to Des Moines tonight for a non conference game against the DMC Lions. Tina Lutterman returns as the Jayette head coach and has spent much of the offseason trying to figure out who will take over the reigns for current UNI Panther Emma Olejniczak inside the pitching circle. Senior Alyssa Kruger has volunteered to return to the pitching circle and vacate the centerfield position in which she has patrolled as well as anyone in the Raccoon River Conference the past four summers. Perry will pack quite the punch offensively with the return of Kruger, Jo Diw, Sydney Vancil and Gabbie West. Adrianna Eastman is also back and will see additional bats and become one of the leaders for Perry. Eastman had the game winning hit last year in the Regional opener. Perry will have the luxury of breaking in several 8th graders and freshmen this opening week with only two games. Perry will play Norwalk later in the week but their original Tuesday game against North Polk was cancelled and their Wednesday game with Winterset was postponed until July.
