severe thunderstorm

A severe thunderstorm passed through a portion of the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area early Saturday morning, prompting activation of Severe Weather Action Team Coverage.

At 1:58 a.m., a severe thunderstorm was detected near Stuart, moving east. The warning was issued for northeastern Adair County, southeastern Guthrie, northern Madison, and southern Dallas. The primary threat from the storm was hail, cloud-to-ground lightning, and torrential rainfall. Radar indicated the possibility of quarter-sized hail, but there was none confirmed that reached that size and the majority of the hail that fell was pea-sized or smaller.

As the storm passed, the affected area began to shrink, allowing the warning to fall off in Guthrie and Adair counties, then Dallas. The thunderstorm warning finally expired for all areas at 2:45 a.m. Three members of the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team, as well as Weather Eye meteorologists contributed to the live coverage. Whenever severe weather threatens our listening area, count on Raccoon Valley Radio to keep you informed and ahead of the storm.
