The accomplishments on the track continue this month for Panorama junior Morgan Johnk. Coming off three top-four finishes in the Class 2A state meet last weekend, Johnk took her talents to Central College Monday for the annual Iowa Track Coaches Associations State Pentathlon to compete against the state’s top track and field athletes. A pentathlon consists of five events over one day consisting of the 100-meter hurdles, shot put, high jump, long jump, and 800-meter run. Every athlete receives points based on the performance in each event. Johnk topped the 26-person senior field with 2,739 points scored. West Des Moines Valley’s Mya Moore came in second place with 2,588 points and Waukee’s Addie Drees finished third overall with 2,471 points. Johnk posted the top individual performance in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.78 seconds and the high jump clearing 5′ 1.75″. Johnk’s classmate, Lydia Knapp, also competed in the annual pentathlon. Knapp placed 11th in the final individual standings with 2,129 points. Both Johnk and Knapp highlight Panorama’s soon-to-be senior class who helped the Panther girls track team finish third in the Class 2A state track meet with 40 points scored.
