Following a 2 hour 15 minute weather delay on Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Greene County senior Megan Durbin ended her high school career with her first State medal for running. The Iowa State University high jump recruit placed sixth in the 200 meter dash for 2A girls in a personal best time of 26.20 seconds. Durbin had been in other runnings events at State during her four years of high school, but had come up short of earning a medal on the track until Saturday.

She scored 11 of the 12 team points the Rams recorded, with eight of the points coming from finishing in second place in the high jump and three from the 200 meters. The other Greene County point was from freshman Brianna Osterson, eighth in the long jump.

A check with officials from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union showed Durbin is in rarified air when it comes to high jumping at Drake. She jumped at the Des Moines University seven times over her four years of high school and was first or second every time. Durbin has two Drake Relays titles to her credit, one Drake Relays second place finish, one State title and three State second place finishes on her resume’. The IGHSAU told Raccoon Valley Radio only two others had as many top two finishes at Iowa’s two most prestigious high school meets in the high jump, and both of those women are in the track & field Hall of Fame. Megan Glisar of Sergeant Bluff-Luton, a Hall of Fame inductee on Saturday, had six top two finishes in those meets in her career.
