The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

The meeting started with the Board signing a proclamation for this year’s Greene County Impact Day on June 3rd in honor of the recipients, Chuck and Carla Offenburger. The Board then approved a cigarette, tobacco, nicotine and vapor permit for Paton Pit Stop and hired George Erickson as a part time employee for the Secondary Roads Department.

The Board also heard from Greene County Chamber Interim Director and Tourism and Events Coordinator Michael Reese. Reese presented a new tourism brochure highlighting all communities in the county, as well as different attractions, places for meetings, other events to be held and points of interest. He also talked about economic impact with a tourism group from South Dakota spending about $50,000 on a recent weekend trip and getting up to $110,000 in a product to be manufactured in Jefferson from Ohio.

The Supervisors then agreed to proceed with design proposals from Brooks, Borg and Skales on the courthouse’s HVAC project. The preliminary estimate is $1.2 million and work could start as early as next spring by phasing in the project. The Board discussed two road projects with County Engineer Wade Weiss. The Board felt that they could help with a resurfacing project in Scranton. The main road leading out to Scranton Manufacturing is in need of repair and the Board felt that they could pay $5,000 toward it. However, no exact funding source was identified. The Board will discuss next week about possibly helping to pay to patch parts of roads and the road at the Juhl Feed station in Dana, following further review of the projects.
