acgcThe ACGC track and field teams returned to the blue oval yesterday with hopes of adding to their electrifying accolades from day one. Unfortunately, the Chargers lacked a little voltage and finished outside the top ten in three of the four events.

Junior Mady McDermott turned in the best performance of the day at the discus. She finished in 7th with a new school record 121-09. The boys distance medley team, who came into the field yesterday with the second fastest time only to Pekin, just missed the top ten with at 12th place finish and a time of 3:43.17. The team consisted of Dylan Soper, Justin Plowman, Caden Wardyn, and Clay Billheimer.

The Charger girls also competed in two relay events. The girls distance medley, which like the boys had the second fastest time coming in, could have benefited from teammate Sara Schmeling. Schmeling helped the team qualify for Drake Stadium, but was not at the state meet as she was traveling abroad on a mission trip. The team of Mady Smith, Savana Fuller, Audrey Stowe, and Kate Crawford finished in 20th with a time of 4:28.78. The 4×200 meter relay team also competed without Schmeling, finishing 22nd with a time of 1:54.47. The team consisted of Reagan Rumelhart, Olivia Laabs, Mady Smith, and Savana Fuller.

The third and final day of competition kicks off for the Chargers with the 800 meter runs, featuring Kate Crawford, Noah Nelsen, and Clay Billheimer. Those three will also compete in the 1500 and 1600 meter runs respectively later in the afternoon. Tune in to the Raccoon Valley Radio Network for complete coverage from Des Moines.
