Day two of the Iowa State Track and Field Meet will showcase the individual hurdling talent across the state. The Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers boys and girls track squads have one runner in all four state hurdles races today. ADM senior Sami Schepers, a four-time state qualifier, represents the Tigers in today’s 100-meter hurdles race. Schepers spoke with the Raccoon Valley Radio Network after Tuesday’s practice about qualifying for the state meet in the hurdles. “I won districts in the open hurdles, so I’ll be going in for those,” Schepers says, “This is my second time I’m going to state in those, which makes me a little nervous, cause all the pressure’s on me, but I’m super excited to go out there and do my best.”
Schepers was the anchor leg of ADM’s state qualifying shuttle hurdle relay team which placed 14th in yesterday’s preliminary race. Junior Anna Kenny will compete in this evening’s 400-meter hurdles race. Kenny told the Raccoon Valley Radio Network she’s excited to take her talents to the Blue Oval. “Because consistently throughout the year, I’ve been dropping my time and it’s really exciting to see that progression,” Kenny said, “I can’t wait to push myself harder at state.”
On the boy’s side, junior Lucas Heitz represents ADM in both the 110 and 400-meter hurdles races today. Heitz told Raccoon Valley Radio after Wednesday’s practice that the whole season’s been a work in progress. “Every meet, I’ve just been trying to get better than what I did last time,” Heitz said, “You can’t look ahead too far and think you’ve done it already when you get higher and higher in the rankings. You have to keep focusing on the next meet, so you don’t get too far ahead of yourself.”
