acgcDespite falling behind early, the ACGC softball team blasted off to an opening night victory last night, defeating the Audubon Wheelers 13-2 in six innings. The Chargers entered the top of the third down 2-1 after Audubon’s Grace Christensen drove the ball to left, bringing home Keaton Wessel and Leah Subbert. ACGC scored two runs of their own in the third and never looked back.

Junior Savana Fuller shined in the batter’s box with five RBIs off four hits and two home runs. Her inside-the-park home run in the top of the fourth extended the lead 5-2. Before the end of the frame the Chargers scored two more capped off by a solo homer for junior Jadeyn Carrick. The Chargers would add six more runs in the fifth and sixth innings, including a 2-run bomb by sophomore Madalyn Kelsey.

That was more than enough for Fuller, who also shined in the pitcher’s circle. Fuller struck out seven, giving up just one hit and two earned runs. Nearly every Charger scored enroute to the 1-0 start.

The Charger baseball team didn’t have quite as much luck on the other side of the complex. ACGC batters were struck out ten times in a 9-3 loss to the Wheelers. Seniors Logan Brinks and Nate Schiller, along with 8th grader Reid Rumelhart, each scored for the gold and black. Both squads will open their home slate tonight against Guthrie County rival West Central Valley.
