The Perry boys soccer team is off to a slow start offensively even though their defense has played well enough to be 3-0 instead of sitting at 1-2.  The Bluejays are coming off back to back 1-0 road losses at Grinnell and Des Moines East.  The bad news is the offense has not scored a goal in over 4 halves of action, the good news is the defense has only allowed one goal over that same time frame.

“Our defense is really playing well right now,” stated veteran coach Gary Overla.  “We aren’t allowing a lot of shots on goal and when we do, the goalkeeping has been pretty good.  Right now we just need to figure out a way to get the ball in the back of the net.  We knew coming into the season that it might take some time but we feel that we have plenty of players who will step up and start scoring consistently.”

Perry lost some heavy firepower from last year with the graduation of one of the program’s top scorers in Jesus Rodriguez.   Perry will look to discover the scoring touch tonight when they host Bondurant Farrar in a conference clash at Dewey Field.
