JPRD Mtg 4_18The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Board met Wednesday in regular session.

The meeting started with  continued discussion on the Greene County Community Center’s 20th anniversary celebration. The event is slated for November, with exact dates to be determined. A number of activities and historical photos and videos are currently being handled by a separate committee. The Board also talked about having them give something away at the event.

The Board then discussed starting a timber management plan. Board member Lee Horbach brought up the topic because he is doing a private timber management program through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. It is where bigger and older trees are taken down to allow the smaller trees to grow and catch more sunlight. The Board instructed Horbach to have the DNR look at the timber in Daubendiek Park, especially along the river. Horbach also mentioned that timber harvesters pay money to take away the cutdown timber.

Finally the Board talked about ideas on how to get rid of the current gym floor so that the new gym floor can be installed after the Register’s Great Annual Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) makes on overnight stop in Jefferson on July 23rd. No formal action was taken by the Board on the topic.
