A Jefferson man was sentenced to prison in Greene County District Court for a December incident.

According to court documents, 36-year-old Derek Eugene Ott pled guilty to a Class D Felony for third degree burglary and was sentenced to prison for a term not to exceed five years. He was given credit for time already served and his prison sentence is to run concurrently with his other prison sentences in separate cases.

The sentence stems from an incident on December 22nd. Ott stole firearms and other personal property from a residence in the 2000 block of 190th Street. Ott was advertising that he had the stolen items for sale and an individual heard about it and told the Greene County Sheriff’s office.

Court documents show that Ott was ordered to pay a law enforcement surcharge and court costs. As per his plea agreement, the state agreed to dismiss Ott’s other felony charges for possession of a firearm by a felon and second degree theft. He also had his fine, other surcharges ad court-appointed attorney fees waived.
