greene county district courtroomA Jamaica man was sentenced to probation in two separate cases in Greene County District Court.

According to court documents, 41-year-old Brett Dwaine West pled guilty to a Class D Felony for second degree theft and in another case, also pled guilty to a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for possession of meth. In both cases, West had his five year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for three years on each convicted charge. The sentences were to run concurrently, along with a separate Guthrie County felony case.

The theft charge stems from an incident on July 31, 2017. West stole tools from a Durlam Electric truck that was parked in the Jefferson Fareway parking lot. The possession of meth charge stems from a September 9, 2017 incident. Greene County Deputies located a possible stolen vehicle at Henderson Park. West said he borrowed it from another person, but admitted he had marijuana, meth and a used needle in the vehicle. He was previously convicted of a third or subsequent offense for possession of meth in 2014.

In both cases West had his fines, 35-percent surcharge and court appointed attorney fees suspended and was ordered to pay victim restitution, court costs, and probation enrollment fees.
