The City of Guthrie Center has plenty to celebrate when it comes to artistic achievement and expression. The diverse array of artistic offerings will expand even more with the opening of a new gallery just off State Street. Of The Earth Fine Art Gallery will be hosting an opening art exhibition and free reception on Wednesday at 108 3rd Street, Suite #1. The gallery will be open from 5-8pm and will include wine and cheese.

The theme for the exhibition is “Artists Who Educate,” featuring four professional visual artists and a musician. All five are also either active or retired public school educators. Gallery operator Nancita Wernett talks about the gallery’s creation. “The gallery idea started many years ago when I was working in the galleries in the Cedar Rapids district. I always had this great love for the fine arts and the presentation of the fine arts. Through my life I’ve had home galleries and so this is kind of a dream come true bringing it into the public.”

The exhibition will be open until May 31st. Wernett emphasizes this gallery is primarily for single events and will not have regular operating hours. However, she is hoping to host more events and programs in the space. To hear more about the gallery, listen to Wernett on today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
