Bicycle enthusiasts and history buffs are invited to an upcoming event that will blend the two.

The Waukee Area Historical Society is hosting the Dallas County Historical Bike Ride on Saturday, May 5th, which will take attendees on a 32-mile round-trip ride through the County and the history book. The event will start at 8 a.m. with registration at Mickey’s Irish Pub in Waukee, then the ride will kick off at 9. The route will take riders through Adel, and then on to Redfield where it will stop at Harvey’s Diner and Pub before looping back to Waukee. Along the way, Dallas County Historian Rod Stanley will educate attendees on the various locales, including the Dallas County Courthouse, the site of a historic bank robbery, and Hanging Rock.

Cost to participate is $35 from now until May 4th, and includes a slap koozie, a year-long Raccoon River Valley Trail pass, an RRVT map, and a historic stop keepsake booklet. Registration on the day of the event will be $45. In addition to the Historical Bike Ride, there will also be an optional Poker Run with five stops along the route. The Poker Run will cost $20 per participant. To pre-register for the event or for more information, call 515-782-0025, or click the link below.
