Construction on the Willis Avenue bridge over Frog Creek in Perry will begin today, which means traffic south of 1st Street will need to observe detour routes.

Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson describes the detour, which will be different for local traffic and semis. “Local traffic will be able to go north one block to Warford (Street), and then around back down to Willis. Truck traffic going towards the west end of town there will be asked to go out to (Highway) 141, and then down to I Court and back north. So a little bit longer detour for them, but we really do not want those semi trucks on the residential roads.”

The road will remain closed until the project is complete, which Peterson says should be some time in May. He asks people to be patient during the construction period, and promises the new bridge will be something that is worth the wait and trouble. To hear more from Peterson, listen to Tuesday’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program.
