The girls and boys high school track & field teams from Greene County High School are in action at 10 a.m. today indoors at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. It’s a non-scored coed meet featuring a dozen or more schools.

Girls’ head coach Derek Merk and boys’ head coach Chad Morton plan on taking most of the squad members that are not away on Spring Break. This is the third and final indoor meet of the season for both after competing in Cedar Falls at the University of Northern Iowa, and at Iowa State University in Ames.

Coach Morton told Raccoon Valley Radio he likes the indoor meets because it gives the athletes a taste of what track & field is like, and gets them competing. Coach Merk said he’s seen some positives in the first two meets, and expects more of the same today. Both Greene County teams are very young with few seniors and not many more juniors.

The first outdoor meet on the schedule for the Rams is their own Early Bird Meet on March 26 at Linduska Field in Jefferson.
