The City of Perry’s 2019 budget was recently certified, and Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn says while their budget wasn’t the biggest in the City this year, his department will be well taken care of.

Vaughn feels this year’s budget discussions were very productive, and he along with the other department heads got basically everything they needed. “I think the budget process went pretty well this year for just about everybody. You know, (we) can’t have everything we want, and there’s always things that we’d love to do. But I think the City on the whole and the department heads really come together to be realistic and make priorities to get the things that they need to get things done for the City.”

For the Police Department, the big ticket items on their budget include a new squad car and new Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices to replace out of date equipment. However, Vaughn says their biggest expense for the year will be a new records management system. Their current system has been in place for around 20 years, and Vaughn says it’s not supported anymore. That means if something goes wrong with it, they don’t have anyone to turn to for repairs.
