GTSBA reminder that as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day today, extra law enforcement will be out on the roads.

The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP) Wave is once again focusing on drunk drivers and seat belt compliance. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday in 2016, 39-percent of all fatal vehicle crashes involved drunk drivers.

The Jefferson Police Department reminds everyone to not drink and drive. They also encourage everyone to use the NHTSA free app “SaferRide,” which will allow someone who has been drinking and needs a ride home to call a cab or designate a friend to pick them up just by identifying their location.
