State Senator Jake Chapman, a Republican from District 10, recently stepped into a new leadership role in the Iowa Legislature.

Earlier this week, Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix announced his resignation in the aftermath of a national controversy. That caused a shake-up in the Senate republican leadership, and Chapman found himself on Wednesday in the position of Assistant Senate Majority Leader. He was selected by his peers in the Senate, and will work alongside new Majority Leader Jack Whitver of District 19. Chapman says he’s looking forward to his new role, though it wasn’t something he actively sought out. He says it was something his fellow republican senators thought would suit him.

“So it really is a privilege and an honor to be able to serve them, as well as the entire Iowa Senate in this capacity. My responsibility as an Assistant Majority Leader is to help shape and move the agenda of the Senate. And we work with other senators that might be new to the process, or might be in their second year, helping them with their legislation as well. Kind of showing them the ways. So I’m really excited about this new role. I’m really excited to be able to take a more active role in shaping the agenda for the Iowa Senate.”

In a statement released Wednesday, Governor Kim Reynolds offered her congratulations to Chapman and the other new leaders of the Senate. To hear more from Chapman, listen to this Monday’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program at RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
