The second of three indoor track & field meets for the Greene County Rams took place on Tuesday. Coach Chad Morton’s team took part in the ISU High School Classic for boys inside the Lied Recreation Center in Ames on the Iowa State University campus. No team scoring was held in the meet that featured teams from schools of all sizes and various parts of the state.

The Rams had a pair of top 10 finishes and both came in the jumps from sophomores. Colby Kafer was eighth in the long jump at 18′ 10-1/4″ among 73 jumpers, and Carter Morton tied for eighth in the high jump at 5′ 10″ in a field of 72.

Also, the Rams had three other top 30 performances. Senior Kolin Reed tied for seventeenth in the high jump at 5′ 8″,  Morton was 27th in the 60 meter high hurdles in 9.27 out of 80 runners, and the 4 x 400 meter relay was thirteenth among 44 teams in 3:43.65 with Morton, sophomores Brent Riley, Xavier Hayes, and Kafer.

Junior Nate Bowen ran the 1,600 meters in 5:02.13, a new record for the six seasons competing as Greene County. He placed 44th among 117 runners.

The final indoor meet for the Greene County teams is this Saturday at the Buena Vista University coed meet in Storm Lake. The outdoor season is scheduled to begin in less than two weeks with the Greene County Early Bird Meet in Jefferson at Linduska Field.
