GCDC Board 3_13Greene County Development Corporation met Tuesday in regular session.

An update was given about the Greene County School District bond referendum. It was mentioned that several meetings have been held by the Our Kids, Our Future Greene County committee with county employers and other organizations. Greene County High School instructors have also been talking with students who are eligible to vote for the upcoming special election on April 3rd.

During community reports, Nick Sorensen gave an update from the housing committee. He said for the GCDC housing committee, they are reaching out to the outlying communities to find out about available land for housing. As for the Jefferson housing committee, Sorensen said the City is looking to include the White House Apartments in the urban renewal area to help rehab the structure for available housing opportunities.

Executive Director Ken Paxton  reported that work is continuing with the Greene County School District on creating an internship program for the major county employers. Finally, an Alliant Energy representative talked about providing temporary services when the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) comes through Scranton, Grand Junction and Dana, with an overnight stop in Jefferson.
