The high school girls and boys track & field teams from Greene County High School took part in the Buena Vista University indoor meet in Storm Lake on Saturday. This was the third and final indoor meet for the Rams and it was a non-scoring meet. Neither Greene County team was at full strength due to Spring break. There were just over a dozen teams in the competition.

Highlights included one first place finish. That game from sophomore Colby Kafer in the long jump for boys at 19′ 5″.

Second place finishes included the high jump for boys from sophomore Carter Morton at 6′ 1″. It was the second highest clearance of his career and the best indoors. Morton was also second in the 60 meter high hurdles in 8.928, just .003 behind the first place finisher.

Junior Melanie Doran was second in the 60 meter hurdles in :10.68.

Freshman Luis Velazco was third in the 800 meter run for boys in 2:18.19.

Freshman Brianna Osterson ran the girls’ 400 meters in 1:08.08 to place third. She was also fifth in the long jump at 14′ 11-3/4″.

Junior Noah Bowen was fifth in the 1,600 meter run for boys in 5:10.40.

Junior long jumper Janelle Brophy went 15′ 9-1/4″ for a season best and one of the best of her career in finishing in second place. She was also sixth in the 200 meter dash in :29.82.

Junior Clint Dennhardt was sixth in the boys’ 200 meter dash in :25.41.

Sophomore Colby Kafer ran the 60 meters 9n 7.69, good for sixth place.

The highest finish among Greene County relays was the second place girls’ 4 x 60 meter shuttle hurdle relay in :42.38 w with sophomore Izzy Bravard, senior Sydney Schiltz, freshman Lillian Muir, and Doran.

The girls distance medley relay covered the 1,600 meters in 5:05.24 with sophomores Tieryn Tucker and Paige Heaning, Muir, and senior Haley Hall. They placed fifth.

Greene County was fifth in the boys’ 4 x 400 in 3:50.85 with Morton, sophomore Brent Riley, sophomore Tyler Teeples, and Kafer.
