There are 19 events for girls and 19 for boys in high school track & field in Iowa. It would seem the high jump is one of Greene County High School’s stronger events for both girls and boys.

Senior Megan Durbin is one of the state’s top female high jumpers. She has a Drake Relays title and a State title to her credit, as well as a pair of second place finishes at State, and one at Drake.

On the boys’ side, senior Kolin Reed and sophomore Carter Morton provide a one-two punch. Morton hit a PR (Personal Record) of 6′ 2″ at the 2017 State Qualifying Meet in Denison to win the event and qualify for State. Reed had a best of 6′ 0″ last season, which he already equaled indoors last week at Cedar Falls.

Morton told Raccoon Valley Radio what he’s done in the high jump in the off-season, and what his goals for his sophomore campaign are. “I went to some camps in the off-season, and I’m trying to do more in the high jump. I’d like to set a new PR and get to State again.”

The Greene County girls and boys both go to Storm Lake this Saturday for an indoor meet hosted by Buena Vista University.
