stpatricksdayToday is St. Patrick’s Day and the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office are out in full force to make sure drivers are staying safe on the roads. Local law enforcement is taking part in an effort by the Iowa Department of Public Safety (IDPS) to increase traffic enforcement over the holiday weekend. They’ll be looking especially for signs of impaired driving and those driving without wearing a seatbelt.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 39% of all fatalities in vehicle crashes involved drunk drivers. IDPS recommends using the “SaferRide” app for those who feel they or someone else are too impaired to drive. They also recommend drivers to be on the look-out for pedestrians who are impaired.

If you’re looking for an alternative to the traditional Irish pub crawl, the Casey Visitor Center will be hosting a Bingo fundraiser for A-C Travel Abroad Club. The event will begin at 6pm with a meal of walking tacos, desserts, and beverages. Bingo will begin at 7pm and beer will also be available for a suggested free-will donation.
