Greene County School Board 3_21The Greene County School Board met Wednesday in regular session.

During open forum, Brooklyn Smithson, an eighth grade student with the home school assistance program, addressed the Board about bullying and how that has affected her. Due to Iowa Code, the Board couldn’t respond following her remarks.

The Board then approved the revised policy about the superintendent evaluation. The policy now includes adding a 360 Evaluation program, as well as doing a minimum of three sessions throughout the school year, in addition to the final evaluation in March. The Board also approved the new superintendent process, which includes establishing individual goals for the superintendent ahead of the next school year, sending out evaluation surveys to randomly selected individuals.

The Board approved an $82,600 purchase for a new 77-passenger bus; the 2018-19 contracts for certified staff with a two-percent total package increase, classified staff for a two-percent increase and bus drivers with a 1.5-percent increase; two fundraising requests as presented; the first reading for a new board policy for online fundraising campaigns; and the 2018 spring officials list. Additionally, the Board set a public hearing for the 2018-19 budget on April 11th with a proposed $12.69 per $1,000 valuation tax levy; continuing sharing agreements with several school districts for curriculum director, media specialist and a math position; accepting the 2016-17 audit report; and renewing the purchasing agreement with the Area Education Agency program.

The meeting ended in a closed session for the superintendent evaluation.
