acgcThe first official tournaments on the calendar for the ACGC track and field teams begin at the end of the month. However a dozen Charger girls got the chance to get their season off to a good start at the Iowa State University High School Indoor Classic in Ames. Sophomore Kate Crawford picked up right where she left off at last fall’s state cross country meet, with a tenth place finish in the 3000 meter run. The girls record holder in the event, Crawford performed the best from athletes in the West Central Activities Conference and finished after just over eleven minutes.

Senior Mady Smith also had the highest finish among WCAC athletes in the 60 meter hurdles. She finished in 12th place with a time of 10.13 seconds. The other top 15 finish went to junior Madison McDermott in the shot put. She threw 34-10.5 and finished in 13th place. The boys will take their turns at the indoor classic today.
