Carl Behne (pronounced Bay-nee) told Raccoon Valley Radio he was pleased with the first week of high school boys’ soccer practice at Greene County High School. The head coach of the Rams has about 30 boys out for the sport, which is being offered by the Rams for the first time. Previously, Greene County students wanting to play soccer drove themselves to and from Boone to play for the Toreadors under an athletic sharing agreement.

“I’m real pleased with the number of boys out. They’re at different skill levels right now, but we do have some foreign exchange students that have played the game for quite some time. Plus, some of our guys from the Under 15 teams of recent years are with us, and there’s one young man that played in sharing program for Boone last year, so we aren’t totally without experience.”

Yesterday was the first day of soccer practice for the Greene County girls. Marilyn Tasler is the head coach.

Both Greene County teams are scheduled to open their inaugural campaigns on Monday, April 2 vs. Humboldt in Grand Junction.  The girls host the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. with the boys playing at 6 p.m. Up until now, that field was primarily used for some middle school and 9/JV football games in the fall.
