After the recent resignation of Iowa Senate Majority Leader Bill Dix, questions arose on who would succeed him in the position.

Wednesday morning the answer came, and one local senator has been given a new leadership position as a result. State Senator Jake Chapman, a Republican from District 10, was selected to be the Assistant Senate Majority Leader under new Majority Leader Jack Whitver of District 19. Chapman was selected by Iowa Senate Republicans to fill the post, and will take over immediately. The shake up in the Iowa Senate resulted from Dix’s resignation as Majority Leader and state senator, which was announced Monday following controversy over a video of him kissing a lobbyist.

In a statement, Governor Kim Reynolds offered her congratulations to Chapman and the other new leaders of the Senate.
