Janel Brophy is a Greene County High School junior long jumper and sprinter on Coach Derek Merk’s track & field squad. A Class 3A State Meet qualifier in 2017, she’s one of four girls the Rams return with State Meet experience. The others are senior Megan Durbin, junior Melanie Doran, and sophomore Megan Doran.

Brophy was asked about her goals for the 2018 season. “I was really close to breaking the (Greene County) school record last year in long jump, so that’s my main goal, as well as to have fun and improve as a long jumper.” As far as running events, Brophy added, “At the UNI indoor meet earlier this year, they had me running the open 200, so I hope I’m running those, but I might be running some 400’s, too, like I did last year.”

The Greene County girls and boys both go to Storm Lake this Saturday for the Buena Vista University indoor high school meet. The outdoor season for the Rams is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 26 in Jefferson for the Greene County Early Bird Meet.
