ADM Tigers

Girls athletes from 90 Iowa high schools descended on Iowa State University in Ames Monday afternoon for the 25th annual Iowa State Girls High School Classic. Six members of the Adel-Desoto-Minburn Tigers girls track team took part in the meet, competing in seven events total. The Tigers girls finished in the middle of the pack in a majority of their competitions with no one placing higher than 16th in any event. ADM head girls track coach Bart Mueller says it was a great preseason test for the athletes who took part in the meet. “They got to see a lot of top runner from across the state, central Iowa for sure,” Mueller said, “It’s also a meet with athletes of all abilities there; they’ll have heats for runners of every level. A lot of our girls got to win heats, which was a good feeling for them.”

Junior Sadie Jurgens came away with the best finish at the Iowa State Girls High School Classic, finishing 16th overall in the 1500 meter run with a race time of 5:06. Jurgens also placed 46th in the meet’s 800 meter run with a mark of 2:20.16. Other notable ADM finishers included sophomore Holland Zwank taking 35th place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 18.5 seconds. Freshman Hannah Welch clocked the 39th fastest time in the 3000-meter run at 12:40.

The ADM girls track team resumes their season this weekend in Pella, taking part in the annual Central College Indoor Meet.
