Jefferson Fire DepartmentA vehicle was a total loss following a fire in Jefferson Thursday.

According to the Jefferson Police Department report, officers and the Jefferson Fire Department responded to the call of a vehicle fire at 12:40pm in the 300 block of North Chestnut Street. The owner of the 2001 Nissan Altima, Bill Richardson, told police that he drove the vehicle back to his house for a lunch break. As he was inside his home, he looked outside at the Altima and noticed smoke coming from the vehicle and called 911.

Fire Chief Jack Williams said when they arrived on scene, fire was coming from the engine compartment. Fire crews extinguished the flames in 20 minutes and no one was hurt in the incident. A cause of the fire was not determined.
