national weather serviceRoads conditions may get worse during the overnight.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, state roads in Greene County are partially covered with slush, while most of the roads in Guthrie and Dallas counties are seasonal driving conditions.

Greene County Secondary Roads Foreman Tanner Stauffer tells Raccoon Valley Radio that plow crews were out at noon plowing the hard surface roads and the maintainers were scraping the gravel roads. By 5pm, the plow trucks had applied sand and salt mixture to the hard surface roads. Stauffer anticipated that they will be back out Friday morning starting at 5am to remove any overnight snow and/or ice on the county roads.

Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says crews were out earlier this afternoon plowing the middle of the roads and applying sand and salt mixture to the intersections with stop and yield signs. He adds that they will continue to monitor the weather during the overnight and make a decision Friday morning when to send out the plow trucks.

Motorists are reminded to give plow crews plenty of room to operate and remove snow and ice from the roads and drive slow and defensively, if you have to travel this evening.

The National Weather Service still has a winter weather advisory in effect until midnight tonight.
